The long weekend was nice and Nick and I got to spend some quality time at the lakes. We left Thursday afternoon for DL and got there at 7:30. We checked in at the campground and said hi to Nicks parents and grandparents. Then, we headed over to a childhood friend of mine, Rob. At his house, we shot off some fireworks and then headed to the Pit. We watched some drunkies sing karaoke and then headed for home, with me as the DD and Nick as my sober co-pilot.
Friday: 4th of July! We spent the morning with the Olsons and then headed out to meet Rob for some wakeboarding. I had some fun but the water was pretty choppy due to the high boat traffic. I saw Rob get up on a wakeboard for the first time, even though he says he has done it plenty of times behind other boats. That was exciting and then we tried to get Nick. That didn’t work so well. My parents were watching in their boat so Nick and I switched boats and we went to my Aunts to pick up my Grandma and head to the campground to meet the Olsons for a big lunch. We had some good food and then went to the beach for some swimming. After a bit, Nick and I got on the boat and watched some kneeboarding by Carley and Aaron and watched Aaron try and get up on skis. Nick also got to kneeboard and got up for a total of 8 seconds. Yay! Later, Carley and I went kneeboarding. It was fun but then we retired and took a shower before heading to the beach to catch the fireworks show. I was sitting with Alex, Nicks’ godson, and he was kind of afraid of the loud noises that the fireworks make. He did alright and was telling me all of the colors that were exploding in the sky.
Saturday we headed over to Pelican to spend the day with my Dad’s side of the family. We had lunch around 1 with my Grandparents, Dad, Stepmom, Aunt Deb and Dawn, Uncle Bob, younger Cousin Cy and his friend Blake. It was good eats and then we headed out to the deck to chit chat it up while others fell asleep on random couches throughout the house. My Aunt had just bought her first digital camera, welcome to technology Dawn!, and Deb and I were showing her the ropes. Her camera has a smile detector setting that I had never heard of before. It was pretty sweet, when you have the setting on, it senses a smile and when it does, it automatically takes a picture. A neat feature if you have kids who never want to smile. You can take pictures of multiple people and give priority to the smaller face, a child, or vice versa in order to ensure that they smile for the picture. Neat! After that Nick and i took the pontoon out on the lake. It was pretty windy and we headed over to another beach to see if we could find Tyler Grunewalds cabin, or at least to see if he was outside. We have seen him on the lake before the year before but did not see him then. So, we headed over to the sandbar. Captain Nick eventually landed the boat and we got out to walk around. It was then that we realized we had forgotten to pack towels on our little adventure, opps! The weather was quite windy and we could hear thunder in the distance so we headed back. Captain Heather landed the pontoon on the lift perfectly en light of the treacherous weather. We had some leftovers for supper and then played a little Sequence before my Aunts, Uncle and Cousin took off. Nick and I then grabbed some fishing poles and headed down to the water to see if we could catch some fish off the dock. Nick was a doubter but low and behold, Heather pulled a fish out! Nick took it off and threw it back in and then subsequently caught it again but the fish swallowed his 3 hook bait and did not make it. Nick caught his own fish after that before we decided to leave.
Sunday Nick and I played a couple card games and waited for the Olsons to get back from Wal-Mart. After they did, DuWayne, Aaron, Carley, Nick and I went on the boat for some last kneeboarding for Carley who was to leave for her first camp experience at Emmaus at 1. If you want to see pictures of her at camp you can click here and go to Photo Albums on the right side. Carley is currently residing in Cabin Light and I hope she has a lot of fun! They update everyday and she comes back on Friday, her 13th birthday! She did quite awesome and has some major pipes. I think she held on longer than all 3 of us kids combined that day. After they left to take Carley to meet her bus, Nick and I played some more games and then packed up to head to Sugar Bush to meet my Mom and Curt at the Voxlands. This was Nicks first trip to Sugar Bush and he decided he liked it because it felt more “Minnesotan”. He explained further that this meant it looked more woodsy because there were no beaches and less people because it is a protected lake. All the houses are pushed back from the lake and there are no paved roads anywhere around the lake. When we got there, we headed down to the water and met up with my parents, the Voxlands, and their son Joel and his wife Tina and dog Sophie. We all got in the boat and crossed the lake to a protected bay and floated for awhile. Later, we saw a deer on this land while coming back from watching the sunset. After floating, Nick tried waterskiing again. Not quite but maybe next time. I went wakeboarding and then tried to ski. Last time we tried to get me up, we spent all afternoon with no positive outcome. I skied when I was younger but I guess I just forgot. Well, Sunday I got up first time! Had a lot of fun and then Nick and I went tubing. Fun fun! Nick then went alone for a little bit before being joined by Curt. Curt, who had recently purchased a wet suit for some unknown reason, decided he needed to try it out. He suited up and headed into the water, which he quickly commented that he knew why it was called a “wet suit”. Nick and Curt went for awhile before I dumped them eventually and then got out. Curt took off his wet suit and Nick made sure to look away in fear of getting mooned. They pulled me back to the dock and I think I went wakeboarding once more. After that fun, Nick and I tried out the anti-gravity chairs before supper. We had brats and sausage over the open fire. I then had the extreme pleasure of using a battery powered marshmallow roaster. You put the mallows on the 3 prongs and they slowly rotate in order to be sure that the mallows are sufficiently cooked on each side. Quite wonderful. I had some smore’s along with Nick and then we headed out onto the boat for one last ride. A little more wakeboarding splendor by Heather and it was AWESOME! The lake was glass and I was having fun. After I finished we headed to the northern end of the lake to watch the sunset. Gorgeous. That night, we decided to drive home and spend Monday doing whatever. We got home around 1 and headed to bed.
Monday was Star Wars day! Nick will have to tell you about this wonderful adventure so you can fully grasp the magnitude that is Star Wars.
That is all for now. James and Lindsay are coming down this weekend so not sure what we will be doing. Next weekend is the summer Extravaganza for taekwondo so we will be in Moorhead for awhile but maybe head to the lakes for Sunday. Bye!
